NSW: Random knife searches not on the agenda - Madden
SYDNEY, April 23 AAP - An expansion of police powers to allow random knife searcheswas not being considered by the NSW Police Force, Deputy Commissioner Dave Madden saidtoday.
Speculation arose today that police wanted knife search laws broadened to allow randomsearches of cars and individuals.
Mr Madden today said while this option had been put forward by the police corporatespokesman for street safety, random knife searches were not presently on the agenda forconsideration.
"No they are not. We're examining how we can use the legislation better or whetherwe need to put up a submission," Mr Madden said.
